Chinese fused magnesia prices steady

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Mar 23 - Considering dim market but high production costs, most suppliers hold their prices unmoved this week. Therefore, the current mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.45min, 0-30mm stand stable at RMB3,300-3,400/t (USD474-488/t) EXW D/A 180 days since early this week. In view of high production costs despite weak demand, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would keep flat in the week to come.
A producer in North China stated, "We quote RMB3,300/t (USD474/t) EXW D/P for fused magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.45min, 0-30mm and consider no concession from early this week". They received no inquiries since they last sold around 500t at such price on Monday. Despite soft market, they plan to stick to their current price because they last purchased about 5,000t of magnesite MgO 47%min, CaO 0.7%max, SiO2 0.7%max at RMB420/t (USD60/t) delivered from Haicheng in the middle of last month. They predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would remain stable in the forthcoming week.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 24,000t of fused magnesia, predicts to produce nearly 2,000t in March, in line with last month. They have no inventory at present.
Another producer in Liaoning revealed, "We offer RMB3,200/t (USD459/t) EXW D/P for fused magnesia MgO 97%min, Ca/Si=1min, B.D. 3.47min, 0-120mm today and could accept no concession, unchanged from early this week", adding that they last sold around 330t at such price in the middle of last week. The producer claimed that they prefer to hold their price firm because they last purchased nearly 5,000t of metallurgical coke at RMB2,400/t (USD344/t) delivered from Shanxi in the middle of last month. The producer predicts that the mainstream prices of Chinese fused magnesia would keep stable in the coming week.
Based on the production capacity of 100,000tpy of fused magnesia, the producer predicts to produce approximately 5,000t in March, similar to last month. They hold around 2,000t of stocks now.
