India plans to cut capacity of 81 coal-fired power plants in next four years

Ministry of Power of India indicated that the country plans to cut the capacity of at least 81 coal-fired power plants over the next four years to replace expensive thermal power generation with cheaper clean energy.
India now has 173 coal-fired power plants in operation. The capacity cuts are expected to reduce power generation by 58 billion KWh, save 34.7 million tons of coal and reduce carbon emission by 60.2 million tons.
