Indonesia's Bukaka invests $2 billion in building nickel smelters

Indonesian engineering company Bukaka Teknik Utama plans to spend about $2 billion to build nickel smelters powered by river water, as it seeks to enter the fast-growing EV battery industry.
The company is constructing facilities on the eastern island of Sulawesi for producing ferronickel and nickel sulfate. The company says it will supply all 31,400 tons of nickel sulfate produced by the plant each year to South Korea's POSCO Holdings . The plant will also produce 33,000 tons per year of ferronnickel used for stainless steel.
