China's crude stainless steel output up by 20.82% YOY in H1 2021

Stainless Steel Council of China Special Steel Enterprises Association announced the following statistics on China's stainless steel production, import and export as well as apparent consumption in the first half of 2021:
1. Output: In the first half of 2021, the national crude stainless steel output reached 16.24 million tons, an increase of 279,900 tons or 20.82% compared with the same period in 2020, but a decrease of 452,100 tons or 2.71% compared with the second half of 2020.
2. Import and export: In the first half of 2021, China imported 1.41 million tons of stainless steel, up by 772,000 tons or 121.31% over the same period last year. In particular, the imported steel billet recorded 625,400 tons, an increase of 159.32% year-on-year; the imported stainless steel scrap was 29,800 tons. In the first half of 2021, China exported 2.19 million tons of stainless steel, a year-on-year increase of 576,100 tons or 35.72%.
3. Apparent consumption: The apparent consumption of stainless steel reached 13.88 million tons, up by 2.70 million tons or 24.20% over the same period last year.
