S . coal exports in 2021 are expected to reach around 83 . 8 million short tons, an increase of 14 . 7 million short tons from 2020, mainly driven by the sharp rise in coal prices and the decline in exports from other supplier countries . In 2022, U . S . coal exports are expected to further increase to 99 . 1 million short tons, a year-on-year increase of 18%.
