Global steel scrap exports fall by 2.3% YoY in 2020

The "2021 world's iron and steel statistics" released by the World Steel Association recently showed that global steel scrap exports reached 98.9 million tons in 2020, down by 2.3% year on year, and imports reached 96.9 million tons, down by 6.4% year on year.
28 E.U. member countries totally exported 48.9 million tons of steel scrap in 2020, falling by 1.4% year on year and accounting for 49.4% of the world's total, and ranked No.1 in the world. From the perspective of single country, the United States took the lead by exporting 16.9 million tons of steel scrap in 2020, dropping by 4.5% year on year and accounting for 17.1% of the world's total, followed by Japan with exports of 9.4 million tons of steel scrap, up by 22.1% year on year and accounting for 9.5%.
Turkey imported 22.4 million tons of steel scrap in 2020, rising by 19.1% year on year and accounting for 23.1% of the world's total, and topped other countries.
In 2020, China neither imported nor exported steel scrap. As China lifted import restrictions on recycled iron and steel raw materials from 1 January, 2021, China's imports of recycled iron and steel raw materials increased gradually.
