Worldsteel: Global crude steel output up by 0.5% YOY in 2020

According to the World Steel Statistics in 2021 recently released by Worldsteel, global crude steel output recorded 1.878 billion tons in 2020, up by 0.5% YOY. The average annual compound growth rate of crude steel output from 2015 to 2020 was 3.0%. In 2020, China's crude steel output reached 1.053 billion tons, up by 5.2% YOY, and the output accounted for 56.7% of the global output, up by 12.2% compared with 2010.
In 2020, the global export volume of steel (finished and semi-finished products) recorded 400 million tons, down by 8.7% YOY, and the export volume accounted for 22.9% of the output, down by 2.2% compared with 2019.
From the perspective of apparent consumption, the global apparent consumption of finished steel in 2020 was 1.772 billion tons, a slight decrease of 0.2% YOY. In 2020, China's apparent consumption of finished steel products was 995 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.1%, accounting for 56.2% of the global apparent consumption, an increase of 11.5% compared to 2010.
