India's coal output up by 0.8% YOY in Jan-May

According to the preliminary statistics from Ministry of Coal of India, in May 2021, the coal (coal and lignite) output in India totaled 56.35 million tons, up by 3.10 million tons or 5.8% from the corresponding period last year, and up by 1.60 million tons or 2.9% from April. Specifically, CIL produced 42.08 million tons of coal, an increase of 1.7% year-on-year, and SCCL produced 5.44 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 68.42%. The output of lignite recorded 3.08 million tons, a decrease of 6.3% on a year-on-year basis.
From January to May, India's national coal production totaled 361 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.80 million tons or 0.8%. In particular, the coal output of CIL was 287 million tons, down by 2.8% from the same period last year; SCCL produced 28.22 million tons of coal, a year-on-year increase of 20.1%. The output of lignite reached 12.97 million tons, down by 3.9% year-on-year.
