Inner Mongolia adjusts electricity price policies for eight industries

The Development and Reform Commission and the Industry and Information Technology Department of Inner Mongolia recently released a notice on adjusting electricity price policies and electricity transaction policies for some industries. Highlights include:
1. Starting on 10 February, 2021, captive power plant will pay policy-based cross-subsidies by electricity generated and consumed by themselves, and the collection standard in western and eastern part of Inner Mongolia is set at RMB0.01/KWh (USD0.002/KWh) and RMB0.02/KWh (USD0.003/KWh) (tax included) respectively.
2. Inner Mongolia will impose differentiated electricity price policy for eight industries including primary aluminum, ferroalloy, calcium carbide, caustic soda, cement, iron and steel, yellow phosphorus, and zinc smelting, strictly in accordance with national regulations . The 2021 tax collection standard for companies under restrictions or to be closed down is RMB0.1/KWh (USD0.02/KWh) and RMB0.3/KWh (USD0.05/KWh) respectively.
3. The price mark-up standards for differentiated electricity price in 2022 and 2023 is raised by 30% and 50% respectively from the current levels.
4. For those on the list of companies to be closed down or under restrictions in Inner Mongolia, the power grid company will charge the raised price according to the list and relevant standards starting Q2 2021.
