POSCO's output and sales unchanged YOY in Q3

South Korea's POSCO recently release the production results report for the third quarter (Q3) in 2020, which showed that its output and sales recovered to the same level of Q3 2019.
In the third quarter of 2020, POSCO produced 9.498 million tons of crude steel, increasing by 1.705 million tons or 21.9% MOM but dropping by 0.6% YOY; it saw an output of 8.903 million tons of steel products, up by 1.051 million tons or 13.4% MOM but down by 1.5% YOY. During this period, the common carbon steel products output reached about 8.478 million tons, up by 13.6% MOM but down by 0.7% YOY; the output of stainless steel products was about 425,000t, up by 8.4% MOM but down by 15.3% YOY. POSCO pointed out that the output increase was attributed to the resumption of #3 blast furnace in Kwangyang in early July. After transformation, the volume of this blast furnace expanded from 4,600 cubic meters to 5,500 cubic meters and its annual production capacity moved up to 4.6 million tons.
In the third quarter, POSCO sold steel products of 8.894 million tons, up by 14.6% MOM but down by 0.6% YOY. In particular, the shipments in South Korea reached 4.77 million tons, rising by 536,000t from a month earlier and the exports were 4.124 million tons, up by 596,000t MOM. During this period, the company sold 2.142 million tons of high value-added products (WTP), up by 25.2% MOM; it sold 750,000t of automobile steel, up by 61.6% compared with 464,000t in the second quarter of 2020.
