China announces 2020 tungsten ore mining quotas (first batch)

On February 19, the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) jointly announced tungsten mining quotas for the year of 2020.
According to the announcement, in 2020 Chinese government will continue to implement tungsten ore mining quota policy; the 2020 tungsten ore mining quotas will be split into two batches; the first-batch quotas will be calculated based upon 50% of the 2019 annual quota, and the second-batch quotas will be announced in the second quarter in line with national government policies and market conditions.
1. For the year of 2020, the first-batch national total quota for tungsten concentrate (tungsten trioxide contents: 65%, and the same hereinafter) mining is 52,500t, including 39,075t mining quota and 13,425t comprehensive utilization quota.
2. Provincial natural resources authorities should break down their own quotas and inform subsidiary cities, counties or companies within 20 working days after the announcement is made.
3. Local natural resources authorities should sign accountability agreements with local tungsten mining companies to ensure quota implementation, and should strictly enforce monitoring system on a quarterly basis.
4. Local authorities on natural resources and on industry and information technology should strengthen communication and cooperation so as to improve local administration on tungsten quota implementation.
