Kunda Zinc postpones resuming zinc powder production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Oct 19 - Jiangsu Kunda Zinc Co., Ltd. postponed resuming zinc powder production to 18 October as upstream natural gas supplier performs maintenance, a source from the company disclosed.
The company suspended production on 20 September required by environmental protection for the 70th anniversary of PRC, and had planned to resume production on 10 October. "Before resumption, we were noticed that upstream natural gas supplier would perform maintenance from 15 to 18 October, and during this period no natural gas is available, so we have to postpone production to 18 October," the source noted. Producing zinc powder and zinc oxide with the later as the main product, the company sells them to coating and chemical plants in East China. Their output of zinc oxide is less than zinc powder and regularly stable at about 200tpm, all of which is sold to fixed clients.
Owning eight furnaces for zinc powder, the company only ran three of them before suspension due to weak consumption, and produced about 600tpm of zinc powder in September. They plan to operate only two after resumption this month, and expects to see about 250t in October, holding no stocks now. The producer produced about 10,000t of zinc power in 2018 and about 6,000t so far in 2019.
Mainstream prices for zinc powder 96%min 325mesh stood at RMB22,270-22,470/t (USD3,153-3,181/t) EXW locally on Monday, slightly up by RMB10/t (USD1.42/t) from last Friday.
