Chinese aluminum hydroxide prices go down further

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Nov 17 - In early November, Chinese aluminum hydroxide prices went down by around RMB70/t (USD11/t) to RMB2,350-2,400/t (USD354-362/t) ex works because of weak demand and alumina prices decline. From last week, prices went down further by around RMB100/t (USD15/t) because of weak demand and slipping alumina prices.
An alumina and aluminum hydroxide producer in Guangxi reported that they sold around 200t of aluminum hydroxide on Monday at around RMB2,250/t (USD339/t) ex works. “Last week, we sold around 1,000t of the material at around RMB2,280-2,290/t (USD344-345/t),” said the source, who cleared more stocks last week for fear of price decrease.
According to the source, the alumina price had dropped to below RMB3,500/t (USD528/t) ex works and may touch RMB3,400/t (USD513/t) this week, so the aluminum hydroxide price may go down further next week.
The refinery is running fully at the capacity of 800,000tpy and holds around 400t of aluminum hydroxide in stock.
An aluminum hydroxide consumer in Henan confirmed that they purchased around 350t of the material last week at around RMB2,410/t (USD363/t), down from around RMB2,510/t (USD379/t) in October, when they bought around 650t. “I think the price may drop to around RMB2,300/t (USD347/t) late this month,” said the source, explaining that the demand becomes weak and alumina prices dropped.
Based on the monthly consumption capacity of 1,000t, the consumer used around 600t last month, but the demand may be only around 400t this month, as they cut production because of environmental protection in winter. They now hold around 100t in stock.
