Chinese zinc scrap prices decrease continuously

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Nov 15 - Prices for zinc ingot have decreased continuously in the past two months and decline sharply this week
A consumer from Hebei noted that they purchased around 20t of zinc scrap 96%min at the price of RMB10,000/t (USD1,587/t) VAT excluded delivered last week, and the prices decreased to RMB9,800/t (USD1,555/t) VAT excluded delivered on Thursday. “Galvanizing plants produced normally and the supply for zinc scrap was stable . However, impacted by decreasing zinc prices, prices for zinc scrap followed suit,” said the source, adding that they will not purchase zinc scrap in the short term as they think the prices will move down further.
The company usually purchases zinc scrap from galvanizing plants in Tangshan and Tianjin and consumes around 350-400t of zinc scrap per month. They will consume around 300t of zinc scrap in November due to weak demand from end users.
A source from a Shandong-based galvanizing plant noted that they sold zinc scrap 96%min at the price of RMB10,000-10,100/t (USD1,587-1,603/t) VAT excluded ex works last week, but they offered RMB9,800/t (USD1,555/t) VAT excluded on Thursday, down by around RMB200-300/t (USD32-48/t) compared with that last Friday. “Due to declining zinc prices, consumers watched the market and thought the prices will move down further . Therefore, it is hard for us to sell zinc scrap,” said the source.
The company holds around 50t of zinc scrap on hand and will recycle around 30t next week. They usually recycle around 100-120t of zinc scrap per month.
