Chinese rough sintered NdFeB N35 price keeps dropping

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Jul 15 - Following with the declining PrNd mischmetal price, the market for rough sintered NdFeB magnet N35 (square) (“N35 (square)” for short) continues to see dropping price. N35 (square) prices go down to RMB116-119/kg (USD18.9-19.3/kg) by bill payment, with a decrease of RMB5/kg (USD0.8/kg) from those of the begging of July. Consumers delay making purchasing in order to avoid losses caused by further price declines. Taking soft demand and sliding rare earth raw material price into consideration, it is predicted that N35 (square) price will keep showing downward trend in the coming week.
A producer in South China reported that N35 (square) market still witnesses weak demand and sliding price. The current price drops to RMB119/kg (USD19.3/kg) by bill payment, down by around RMB5/kg (USD0.8/kg) from that of the begging of this month. “We sold around 1 ton of N35 (square) at RMB119/kg (USD/kg) by bill payment in late last week. The majority of our buyers just purchase 500kg to 1 ton of the material every time,” said the source.
With annual production capacity of 500 tons of N35 (square), the plant’s operating rate was around 50% from this January to April, and decreased to about 40% and 30% in May and June. “Our operating rate is still as low as 30% now,” said the producer, who is supposed to produce around 15 tons of N35 (square) in July, without much change from that of June. The plant holds around 20 tons of stocks now.
"The combination of weak demand and declining rare earth raw material price resulted in persistently dropping price in N35 (square) market. Current N35 (square) price goes down to around RMB116/kg (USD18.9/kg) by bill payment. Most of our clients reduce purchasing volumes and buy 3-5 days at a time in order to avoid losses caused by further price declines,” said another producer in South China, who also mentioned that he sold around 500kg of the material at RMB117/kg and RMB116/kg (USD18.9/kg) by bill payment one week ago and last weekend respectively.
The plant, whose annual production capacity of N35 (square) is 200 tons, ran at around 50% of its production capacity in Q1 and has halted production in the begging of Q2. They have an inventory of about 2 tons at present.
