BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Jul 15 - According to Asian Metal Database, Chinese secondary aluminum alloy ingot output in June declined by 1.2% MOM to around 238,000t. Chinese total secondary aluminum alloy ingot output in the first half of 2015 climbed up by 5.4% YOY to around 1.42 million tonnes.
Chinese secondary aluminum alloy ingot output by month (10,000t)
The above graph shows that the output kept declining in Q2. There are a few of reasons. Firstly, demand from Japan weakened, and Chinese producers cut export volume. Secondly, demand in Chinese domestic market comes into slack season in recent months and many producers lowered operating rate accordingly. In addition, the secondary aluminum alloy ingot price dropped significantly in June, and downstream buyers chose to watch the market. The operating rate in June for secondary aluminum alloy ingot plants was around 67.02% down from 67.83% in May.
It is difficult for the operating rate to recover in July, as Chinese secondary aluminum alloy ingot producers cannot maintain full operation in summer due to hot weather, and the demand will continue to be weak.
