AM Statistics: Imported alumina inventories down by 14.3% MOM in late June

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 6 Jul 15 - According to Asian Metal Database, imported alumina inventories slid down by 14.3% MOM to around 0.6 million tonnes in late June. The consumption volume in June declined by 7.1% MOM to around 0.26 million tonnes.

The above graph reflects that imported alumina inventories continued to go down in late June. On the one hand, most consumers in China focused on Chinese origin alumina due to lower prices and cut alumina imports; and on the other hand, part importers sold alumina to Iran by re-export. According to Asian Metal, China sold around 0.1 million tonnes of imported alumina to the Middle East in June.
Therefore, Chinese consumption volume for imported alumina continued to decline in June. Most aluminum ingot smelters in Northwest China stopped consuming imported alumina. Only a handful of smelters in Henan and Northeast China use imported alumina.
