Pakistani CRC prices decrease

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Jun 15 - Affected by the brunt of low-cost imported materials, the price of CRC in Pakistan recorded a downward trend in the past month. However, the demand from downstream consumers remains stagnant. Insiders predict that it is likely that the price of CRC will come down further in the near future.
A CRC trader in Karachi says the current price of SPCC 1.0mm*1,220mm*C is PKR65,600/t (USD643/t) with taxes included, down by PKR5,000/t (USD49/t) compared with that of three weeks ago.
According to the source, downstream consumers prefer to buy imported materials with low cost. Currently he can get an offer of USD430/t CFR Karachi for CRC with the above-mentioned grade from China. “In the end of April, I placed an order of 1,000 tons of CRC with China at an average price of USD435/t CFR Karachi,” he says, adding that local steel manufacturers are bearing losses as their materials cannot compete with imported ones on the price.
Another trader in Lahore reports to Asian Metal that the price of SPCC 1.0mm*1,250mm*C is PKR68,000/t (USD666/t) with taxes included, down by PKR4,000/t (USD39/t) compared with that of two weeks ago.
As he explains, the price has gone down by PKR10,000/t (USD98/t) since the end of April, influenced by the weakened demand from downstream consumers and the brunt of imported low-cost materials. “The government is trying to protecting local steel mills’ interest and planning to carry out policy about anti-dumping taxes on imported materials,” he says, adding that it is a long way to go. His monthly sales volume was 1,500t in May, but he feels it is a difficult task to reach this level in June as it enters the traditional off-season.
