AM Statistics: Chinese alumina output down by 0.5% MOM to 4.53 million tones in May

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 8 Jun 15 - According to Asian Metal Database, China produced around 4.53 million tones of alumina in May 2015, down by 0.5% MOM. From January to May, China produced around 22.17 million tones of alumina in total, up by 7.1% YOY. Alumina stocks of refineries declined by 12% MOM to around 0.36 million tones in late May.

In May, some alumina refineries in Shanxi and Inner Mongolia suspended production due to equipment break and environment protection. Data shows that the alumina output in Shanxi dropped by around 40,000t to 1.13 million tones in the month. In Shandong province, part new alumina projects continued to come on stream gradually in Q2, leading to output increase. In May, the alumina output in Shandong rose by around 30,000t to 1.38 million tones. In Henan province, the output remained steady at around 1 million tones in May.
