Vietnamese steel plate price flat

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 May 15 - The steel plate prices keep stable in Vietnam at the moment. However, most traders are not so confident of the market outlook and worried about a price decline. Insiders suppose that the price is likely to decrease slightly in the coming week.
A trader in Hochiminh tells Asian Metal that his quotation for SS400 16-20mm imported from China is VND9,900,000/t (USD454.7/t), the same as last week.
With a low stock of 300t in hand against the regular level of 1,000t, the source has no plan to import materials in the short term. Noted by him, although most suppliers in China keep steel plate quotations stable at the moment, domestic selling prices there keep decreasing. As a consequence, he thinks the export quotations, his purchase costs, will decline in coming two weeks. “Most traders in Vietnam prefer to watch the market cautiously,” he explains.
Another trader also in Hohiminh offers VND10,600,000/t (USD486/t) for SS400 16-20mm imported from China, equaling to last week.
According to the source, the frequent price fluctuations of iron ore and wire rod impose uncertainties on the steel plate market and most participants tend to keep close eye on the market. “The current export quotation for the above grade from Chinese suppliers is around USD365/t FOB China and most traders in Vietnam deem the price will go down by USD5/t in the short term,’’ he adds. The source has sold out the stock of 1,000t and does not plan to replenish it in following several days.
