BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Mar 15 - Chinese steel mills hiked offers for hot rolled flat steel including steel plate at the beginning of the week and traders in Vietnam did not build up high stockpiles because of the downward price trend in past two months, so prices for steel plate in Vietnam’s major cities increase slightly this week.
A steel plate trader in Haiphong shows that the price for SS400 30-40mm is VND11,300,000/t (USD526/t, VAT included), VND200,000/t (USD10/t) higher than that of last week.
The source reveals that the price is mainly pulled up by higher import offers from Chinese steel mills. “The sales volume is still unchanged for now as most end users prefer to watch the market cautiously for one more week” he adds . In addition, he shows that most importers are expecting that the price will rebound from the bottom level.
Another steel plate in Ho Chi Minh City reports to Asian Metal that his quotation for SS400 14-20mm is around VND10,600,000/t (USD493/t , VAT included), up by VND100,000/t (USD5/t) over that of last week.
He shows that the price of HRC increased by about VND200,000/t (USD10/t , VAT included) in past two weeks, which imposed a positive impact on the steel plate market. He predicts that the steel plate price is likely to grow further in the short term but the markup will be no more than USD5/t.
