BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Nov 14 - According to the latest statistics from Asian Metal, China produced around 4.15 million tonnes of alumina in October, up by around 3.8% month-on-month, with the total outputs at around 41.02 million tonnes from January to October, up by 4.69% year-on-year.
While the alumina refineries that were forced to cut production as a result of accidents in September gradually resumed production in October, there were also some new alumina projects that were put into operations, so the overall outputs increased to some extent during the month.
Alumina production in Shanxi increased from 1.097 million tonnes in September to around 1.167 million tonnes in October. After the accident in September, Liulin Senze Coal Aluminum’s production had returned to normal, with the monthly production back to around 50,000t. Shanxi Huaxing Aluminum drove their second production line, with a designed capacity of 500,000tpy, on stream in October, raising their monthly outputs from 40,000t of last month to around 80,000t in October.
As Chalco Henan Branch’s alumina refinery gradually resumed production, the overall outputs in this region increased from 916,00t of last month to around 950,000t in October.
Chiping Xinfa Aluminum resumed two low-temperature production lines in October, with the monthly outputs up by around 50,000t to 260,000t. Therefore, the overall outputs in Shandong also climbed up to around 1,110,000t in October from 1,060,000t in September.
Alumina production in Inner Mongolia decreased from 57,000t in September to around 54,000t in October. Although Mengxi Erdos Aluminum’s 200,000tpy of new alumina capacity came on stream in October, Xingheng Aluminum halted production for maintenance during mid-October, so the overall alumina outputs slipped slightly during the month in Inner Mongolia.
Alumina production in Guangxi, Guizhou, Chongqing and Yunnan remained relatively stable at around 620,000t, 160,000t, 25,000t and 70,000t, respectively. As the production of new alumina projects were gradually stabilized and some refineries continued to resume production supported by the relatively high alumina prices, Asian Metal predicts that the overall alumina outputs may continue to increase in the coming month.
