AM Statistics: China's galvanizing plants' operating rate declines to 75.2% in June

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Jul 14 - According to Asian Metal’s statistics on 23 galvanizing plants, the average operating rate at the sample plants was 75.2% in June 2014, down slightly from 75.6% in May. Overall annual capacity is around 8.67 million tonnes.
The galvanizing plants mainly distribute in North China, East China and South China, and they mainly produce galvanized steel pipe, galvanized steel sheet, galvanized iron tower and other galvanizing processing products.
The larger galvanizing plants’ outputs stay at high levels, but many smaller producers reported weak demand and decreasing orders during June. Chinese infrastructure constructions decrease, so demand for highway guardrail, galvanized steel pipe and galvanized iron tower slows. However, Chinese automobile industry is enjoying a boom this year, so demand for galvanized sheet which is used for auto coasting is active.
With the arriving slack period, Chinese galvanizing plants’ operating rates may continue to decline slightly in July.
