BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Jun 14 - According to Asian Metal’s statistics of 23 galvanizing plants, the average operating rate at the sample plants was 75.63% in May 2014, down further from 83.41% in April. Overall annual capacity is around 8.67 million tonnes.
Demand for galvanized products softened, so many plants reduced or halted production during May. Impacted by weak real estate industry, the market may turn weaker in the near future. Furthermore, a number of small-sized galvanizing plants closed due to strict environmental protections in North China, such as Tianjin and Hebei, and many plants reduced production for financial strain. Chinese monetary policy remains tight this year, so most small and medium-sized or private enterprises have difficulty getting loans from banks.
Galvanizing plants’ production has dropped to low ebbs and demand will continue to be weak, so operating rates of the plants may stay at low levels in June.
The chart below shows China’s galvanizing plants’ operating rates from January to May 2014.
