Zinc scrap prices decrease slightly in China

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Apr 14 - Zinc scrap supply increased considerably on the market recently, so zinc scrap prices decreased slightly. However, zinc scrap demand was stable.
A consumer from Hebei noted that they purchased zinc scrap 96% at the price of RMB12,800/t (USD2,081/t) delivered VAT included and RMB11,800/t (USD1,919/t) delivered VAT excluded last Friday, down by RMB100-200/t (USD16-32/t) compared with early April. “Hot galvanizing plants increased zinc scrap supply. In addition, zinc scrap prices were too high in the previous few months. Therefore, it is reasonable for suppliers to decrease prices,” said the source.
The plant usually purchases zinc scrap from hot galvanizing plants in Tianjin and consumes around 400tpm of zinc scrap.
A consumer in Tianjin reported that zinc scrap prices declined slightly recently. They purchased zinc scrap 96% at the price of RMB11,700/t (USD1,902/t) delivered VAT excluded last Friday, RMB100/t (USD16/t) lower than early April. “There are many hot galvanizing plants in Daqiuzhuang, Tianjin city, so we buy zinc scrap easily and freights are very low,” said the source. “Zinc scrap supply increased recently, so prices decreased slightly.”
The plant consumes around 300t of zinc scrap per month, and now they hold few stocks on hand.
