Chinese zirconium sponge price down

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Mar 14 - Chinese zirconium sponge market is slow and the price is in downtrend impacted by gloomy economic. The mainstream prices of industrial-grade zirconium sponge are in the range of RMB179-182/kg (USD29.24-29.74/kg), down by RMB1-2/kg (USD0.16-0.33/kg) than that of last week.
A Liaoning-based zirconium sponge producer, with a production capacity of 50tpm, maintains the offer of RMB185-190/kg (USD30.22-31.05/kg), but the concluded price is only RMB180-183/kg (USD29.41-29.90/kg), down by RMB2/kg (USD0.33/kg) than that of last several weeks. “Domestic zirconium sponge market is a little bit sluggish this month, and we have to decrease the price according to the slow demand and lower raw material prices,” said the source.
The source reported that impacted by soft demand from buyers, domestic market is very weak. Even some long-term consumers also decreased the purchase volume in the past weeks, which can not support the price keep firm.
