The 6th International Indium & Germanium Forum, hosted by Asian Metal and sponsored by Yunnan Lincang Xinyuan Germanium Industry Co., Ltd. and THE FANYA Metal Exchange as well as Yunnan Tianhao Rare Precious Metals Co., Ltd., was held in Kunming, Yunnan, during May 8th-10th. Over 110 representatives both at home and abroad attended the conference which acquired sound support and approval from industrial companies.
The attendees entered the assembly room in succession during 8:30-9:00 a.m. on May 9th. Rachael Chen, the personal manager and general manager assistant of Asian Metal, acted as the compere of the meeting and announced the beginning of the conference after expressing appreciations for the support and trusts to Asian Metal from all participants.
Firstly, Xiang Guanghui, deputy general manager from Yunnan Lincang Xinyuan Germanium Industry Co., Ltd., made a brilliant opening speech and brought the best wish from the company to the forum.
After that, Bao Wendong, president of Yunnan Lincang Xinyuan Germanium Industrial Co., Ltd., on the title of Status Quo and Development Trend of Germanium Industry, reported about the current development state of domestic germanium industry, including the production status of local companies in Yunnan as well as the integration and promotion of the industrial chain under the circumstance of the government’s strict controlling of environmental issues. The report had made a prospection on future trend of the germanium market in consideration of the market situation, and contained the national strategic storage, which is highly focused by insiders in germanium industry.
Shan Jiuliang, president of THE FANYA Metal Exchange, has made the report on the topic of “FANYA Exchange and Chinese Dreams of Rare Metal Industry in China” with details about the current status of Chinese rare metals industry and the Chinese Dream held by all industry participants. Then Mr. Shan indicated a specific direction for insiders to achieve the Dream and explained the attribution and efforts made by THE FANYA Metal Exchange to realize the great goal.
Christophe Murez, Business Line Manager of the Umicore, made a brilliant speech on “The Indium Market: Technology & Stockpiling Impact”, introduced the business and developments of the Umicore, detailed the supply and demand situation in indium ingot market and provided views on strategic and commercial storages in current market. He also mentioned the affects of downstream ITO target products market and the industry to indium ingot market. At last, Christophe gave a prospection to future development of indium market.
After the coffee break, Bao Wendong, president of Yunnan Lincang Xinyuan Germanium Industrial Co., Ltd., Shan Jiuliang, president of THE FANYA Metal Exchange and Wang Zhigang, deputy president of Xilinguol Mengdong Gemanium Industry Co., Ltd., were invited as the special guests of the discussing activity of the Forum. The discussing activity is firstly held on the 6th Asian Metal International Indium & Germanium Forum and is highly anticipated by industry companies. Yang Guohong, Vice president & general manager of production department of THE FANYA Metal Exchange, has been specially invited to take charge of this activity. On the discussion, the guests explained the questions focused close attentions one after another, including the national storage, price hiking, supply and demand balance in the market, etc.
Bao Wendong noted that the factors caused the continuous appreciation of germanium metal since last May was the environmental issue, tight supply of raw material and national storage. He indicated that the storage is a leading trend as the government is going to come out with relative policies. Shan Jiuliang further explained the value of commercial storage and its deep influence to Chinese rare metals industry. Furthermore, Wang Zhigang gave opinions on current market supply and demand on the basis of relationships between producers and consumers, and added that a stable market is the ideal state for both manufactures and end users.
Christian Hell, the technical director of Germany Photonic Sense made the first report of “Supply, demand and new technologies on Germanium based on Infrared Market” in the afternoon. Mr. Hell pointed out the supply and utilization of germanium metal at present and noted that it is difficult to master the market trend for uncertain factors. The report noted that some infrared companies have developed new technologies to reduce the dependency on germanium with seeking substitutable products and minimizing waste of materials.
After that, Chai Weiping, the director of photoelectric material and component research institute of Dalian Jiaotong University introduced the application of indium in panel industry with a report of “Applications and challenges of indium in panel industry”. He recommended current production status of panel industry in China and made predictions about the production of panel in the coming three years. He also indicated the challenges in indium ingot market from physical properties of indium metal, including graphene, the substitute material in the market.
Then, Kevin Jiang, the senior business manager of Umicore Metal International Trade (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. popularized the germanium circulation business developed by “Umicore EOM Big Germanium Loop”. He presented Umicore Group as a material and technology company insisting on the idea of “less is more”, and the company carries out circulation business with sustainable development for some rare earth metals. At the end, Mr. Jiang introduced germanium circulation business of the company in detail with the hope of cooperating with companies from the industry.
Dr. Yang Lihong, deputy chief engineer and researcher of Shanghai solar battery R&D center introduced the overview of global energy and photovoltaic industry and basic information of solar battery and CIGS battery as well as current status and future development of CIGS battery with the report of “Current situation and future of CIGS thin-film solar cells and analysis on indium demand”. Dr. Yang also stated specific utilization of indium in CIGS battery with comparison with other metals in the battery.
Finally, Kirk Johnson, Asian business development manager of Indium Corporation made a report of “The Minor Metals Building Blocks for Compound Semi Conductor Markets”. He introduced the company as well as the situation of indium and its application in flat panel display and semiconductor industries, and status as well as demand and supply and application of germanium. He also made predictions about the future market of compound semiconductor.
