Manganese & Selenium Summit 2010 was successfully held on July 2nd in Nanning, Guangxi, China.

Vice General Manager Zhan Haiqing from the leading manganese producer CITIC Dameng Mining Co., Ltd. gave a warm welcome to all the attendees, announcing the open of the summit.

Tan Zhuzhong, chairman of Association of National Electrolytic Manganese Producers gave a speech on the development of manganese industry as well as the current market performance. Tan expressed the perspective of more centralized and developed manganese industry in the near future, expecting several companies with capacity over 200 thousand tons to emerge in the coming years. And as demand stays slow this year, manganese production is low in domestic market while many smelters are out of production. Tan held that the increasing power tariff will result in higher production cost, which will reduce the profits for manganese smelters. And he indicated some solutions to the situation: first, to solve the problem of energy shortage while improving the problems of insufficient supply of manganese ore in domestic market; second, to advance technology and improve the abilities on energy-saving, consumption-reducing and environmental-protection in manganese industry; third, to control capacity as well as increase centralization of the whole industry by cutting backward capacity and to increase the competition ability.

Wang Hong, General Manager of Shanghai Jinneng Resources gave a speech on "Analysis and forcast on supply & demand of imported manganese ore in China" to the public. Wang expressed thoroughly the demand of manganese ore and it consumption structure under current market situation, and expected the ratio of untraditional sources to increase in the future. Meanwhile, due to the high import cost and low price of downstream products, Wang felt the market may face many difficulties in the near term. Meanwhile, he also analyzed the difference existing in different regions, hoping for an adjustment in the coming three to four months.

Victor, analyst from Asian Metal gave a report on selenium supply and demand, looking into the sources of selenium in global markets before analyzing demand of selenium in Chinese domestic market. As demand stayed slow in the consuming markets, selenium price was low in China, making it impossible to ensure any profits after import from overseas. He expected import to decrease in the second half of the year, pressing selenium price to drop in global markets. But the total import will keep increasing this year.

First Rare Specialty, Yunnan Copper, Foshan Weijun, Pan Pacific, Tianjin Jinjingcheng, LS-nikko, Nanjing Hipower, Changsha Zheyuan, Wanda High Purity, Guizhou Hengzhao and other selenium participants, as well as Oriental Ore and Mineral Venture from Philippines, Amari Resources from South Africa, OXS Technology and TDM Mining from Indonesia also attended the event. Henan Qingshan Jinhui Stainless, Xiangtan Electronic, Shanghai CDI, Jinneng, Xiangxi Jinsha, Huakun Metals, Nanjing Kesi, Yichang Guoxin, Hunan High Board and Changsha Xinhao also enrolled for the event.
