End of Summit
11th Aluminum Raw Materials Summit, organized by Asian Metal, closed successfully on May 21, 2021. The summit, with more than 200 delegates, was sponsored by Alcoa and supported by Turkey CTC Energy & Mining Co., Pt. Focusing on topics of bauxite, alumina and aluminum, speakers come from China, Turkey, India and UK. On the morning of May 21, Mr. Yunchuan Gao, General Manager of Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum delivered a presentation on the Aluminum Development Advantages in Yunnan; Ms. Esra R. Metin, Sales & Marketing Manager of CTC Energy & Mining introduced Islahiye bauxite project in Turkey through Video; Xiaokai Zhang, Dean of Research Institute, Beijing Capital Futures made a report on carbon emission and Chinese aluminum market; Bing Sun, Vice Manager of Shandong Port Yantai Ore Terminal Branch introduced the bauxite loading and transportation in Yantai Port; Weiliang Liu, China Business Manager of Pt. Quality Sukses Sejahtera promoted QSS bauxite project in Indonesia; Rao Fu, General Manager of Golden Bay Resources Limited promoted Laman Mining and QAM Mining projects in Indonesia. In the afternoon, Yalei Miao, General Manager of Shandong Bosheng New Materials reported the Chinese fused alumina market and the consumption demand for alumina; Miles Prosser, Secretary General of International Aluminium Institute delivered a speech through Video on global bauxite and alumina; Yongjie Yuan, General Manager of Sinotrans Shandong Hongzhi Logistics analyzed the global bauxite shipping market; Ashok Nandi, President of International Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium Society made a deep report on aluminum chain in India; Rong Wang, Chief Researcher of Guotai Junan Futures delivered a report on Chinese alumina market.

In 2020, China's new aluminum production capacity mainly spread in Yunnan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia and Sichuan, with the volume in Yunnan accounting for around 61%. The aluminum production capacity share of Yunnan in overall China reached around 9.5% till late 2020, up from around 4.4% in late 2018, which listed Yunnan as the fourth biggest production province.

China's finished aluminum production capacity in 2020 reached 42.5 million tons per year. Weighted average value of CO2 emission from aluminum electrolytic process keeps at 10.3t.CO2/t.Al, with the lowest value and highest value at 7.0t. CO2/t.Al and 12.1t.CO2/t.Al respectively. Yunnan, rich in hydropower sources, has the lowest value of 7.1t.CO2/t.Al while Shanxi claims the highest at 11.7t.CO2/t.Al.

Zhifu Bay Port jetty, with 1,000m of coastline and 5.6km of valid loading railway, has four berths. West Port jetty, covering a working area of 24km2 with coastline at 1,900m, has one big 400,000t and 200,000t professional discharging berth respectively, two 100,000t trans-water berths and one 200,000t universal berth.

China's fused alumina production capacity mainly spreads in Xingyang, Shangjie, Dengfeng, Sanmenxia and Yinchuan of Henan; Chiping, Zibo, Zouping and Jining of Shandong; Guiyang and Yingkou, etc.

The aluminum demand in 2020 contracted by 5.4%, with the forecast of 6.0% in 2021. The post-Covid demand outlook for aluminum remains robust, an estimated CAGR of 3.8% (previously 4.2%) to 2050.

The global bauxite shipping trade volume reached around 152 million tons in 2020, up from around 76 million tons in 2012, with the average YoY rate at around 11.5%. The bauxite freight by Handymax carriers from Indonesia to China reached around USD15/t in April, down from the highest level of USD19/t in March, and up from around USD8/t in January this year.

The estimated alumina recovery production capacity in China would reach 1.64 million tons per year in 2021, and new production capacity might touch 6.1 million tons per year, while the new aluminum production capacity might reach 1.82 million tons. In 2021, the new global alumina production capacity might reach 3.15 million tons. In calculation, the global alumina surplus would reach around 3.517 million tons in 2021 and around 6.389 million tons in 2022; China's alumina surplus would touch 1.591 million tons in 2021 and around 5.112 million tons in 2022.
