End of Summit
On 9-10 May, 2019, the 11th Rare Earth Summit, hosted by Asian Metal, sponsored by Northern Minerals Limited and Ji’an Xintai Technology Co.,Ltd. and supported by Argus and China Rare Earth Information, was held in Qingdao, Shandong. Approximately 200 representatives from China, U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, U.K., Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy and Burundi joined this event.
First of all, Mark Tory, CFO of Northern Minerals Limited delivered the opening speech and gave a speech on “Progress and Prospect of Browns Range Rare Earth Project”, elaborating development history, project advantages, significance of products, development potential and other aspects of the project and bringing a comprehensive project interpretation to the audience.

Next, Liu Weihua, President of Ji’an Xintai Technology Co.,Ltd., gave a report on “Status Quo and Prospect of Rare Earth Resource Comprehensive Utilization in China”, discussing recycling value of NdFeB scrap, status quo of rare earth industry and existing problems and challenges in current rare earth industry. He put forward the great idea of eliminating pollution and regenerating resources and considered it as the main principle for the company to march forward and develop.

Then, Wang Yanli, Vice GM of Sales of Shenghe Resources Holding Co., Ltd., talked about “Thoughts on Chinese Rare Earth Industry Pattern under New Import & Export Situation”. During the speech, Ms. Wang analyzed import & export of Chinese rare earth and evolution of Chinese rare earth industry policy, shared ideas and comments on rare earth industry pattern under new situation, explained development factors, influences and future trend of Chinese rare earth import & export in a multi-dimensional way, enabling audience to have new understandings and ideas about Chinese rare earth import & export pattern under new situation.

After the tea break, Andrea Pratesi, Chief Procurement Officer of B&C Speakers SPA, delivered the report of “Application of NdFeB magnet in LoudSpeaker Industry”, introducing business development of B&C Speakers and prospects of professional speakers and stating reasons why NdFeB magnet speakers are popular. According to him, NdFeB magnet will play a significant role in producing professional speakers and the bright future of professional speakers will result in higher consumption of NdFeB magnet.

Later on, Martin Eales, CEO of Rainbow Rare Earths Limited, brought the speech about “Developing an African Rare Earths Mine”, elaborating how Rainbow Rare Earths overcame difficulties in developing African rare earth mines and finally made achievements.

At around 12:00 a.m., the morning session came to an end and participants took photos together.
At 14:00 p.m., Dirk Naumann, CEO of Canada Torngat Metals Ltd., made a speech on “New Supply Sources of Heavy and Light Rare Earths”. Starting from future supply sources of rare earth, Mr. Naumann highlighted future supply shortage of rare earth and proposed to reduce rare earth intensity per application, substitute one rare earth for another, produce from new mines or expand existing mines and recycle rare earth scraps to solve the problem of future supply gap. Based on such solutions, Torngat Metals launched and advanced Strange Lake Project.

Soon afterwards, Pol Le Roux, Vice President of Lynas Corporation Limited, delivered a speech on “Lynas’s Current Situation and Prospects for Rare Earth Application Market”, stating in detail Lynas’s current situation, performance and value and putting forward the idea of “growth is driven by development of environmental-friendly technologies” for future competition in rare earth market.

Later on, Mr. Roux, Ding Kaihong, General Manager of Yantai Shougang Magnetic Materials Co., Ltd., gave a talk about “Rare Earth Commodity and NdFeB Magnet Market”, interpreting rare earth market comprehensively in terms of reserves, production, price and other factors and doing an in-depth analysis on NdFeB magnet-related rare earth products and market situation, for which the audience had a fully understanding of future applications and market outlook of NdFeB magnet.

After the tea break, Mirali Amayama, Deputy General Manager of Advanced Material Japan Corporation, did a presentation on “Rare Earth Trend in Japan”, elaborating Japanese rare earth market environment on the basis of abundant data and analyzing at great length demand, application, specific industry application and consumption trend of rare earth in Japan. The presentation introduced changes in Japanese rare earth market in a fully and detailed way.

Finally, Nie Donghong, General Manager of Jiaozuo Rongjia Scandium Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., shared the audience with the speech of “Opinions on Scandium Oxide Industry Development in New Era”. Mr. Nie analyzed and interpreted from the perspectives of application prospect and market analysis of AlSc, status quo of scandium oxide market and five-year forecast of scandium oxide market, for which the audience got a complete understanding of the scandium oxide industry, and he also proposed new questions for development of scandium industry.
