During May, tantalum and niobium market keeps relatively dim. Chinese plants reduced their purchasing of raw materials and the traders in E.U. and Africa also lowered the dealing prices. However, the tantalum concentrate prices are higher than USD120/lb, while the untagged tantalum concentrate prices keep at USD100/lb.
Average grade tantalum oxide and niobium oxide deals are rare, and the prices are respectively staying weakly at RMB2,100/kg and RMB320/kg. Potassium fluotantalate prices are more active than other products with the strong demand of tantalum metal. Potassium fluotantalate prices are staying at RMB1,100-1,250/kg.
Tantalum metal and tantalum bar orders come into China steadily, currently, their productions also keep stable. However, they still do not get the orders for the second half year, so the processors are not optimistic about the market.
Demand of tantalum and niobium carbide from the cemented carbide industry keeps dim, tantalum carbide and niobium carbide prices stay at RMB2,650-2,700/kg and RMB650-700/kg. There is still potential for the development of the cemented carbide industry.
