Chinese seamless pipe export price stable temporarily

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Sep 12 - Export prices of Chinese seamless pipe keep stable for the time being, with that of API 5L GRB Φ219*8mm at USD750-760/t (VAT included) FOB China. However, the market performance remains unsatisfying due to the gloomy world economy. Insiders deem that the situation is hard to turn better in the short term.
A sales manager from Changbao Pipe, a seamless pipe producer and exporter in Jiangsu Province tells Asian Metal that the export price of API 5L GRB Φ219*8mm from its mill is RMB4,729/t (USD750t, VAT included) FOB Shanghai Port, equaling to that of the previous trading day.
In the meantime, the source discloses that although the price rose slightly last week caused by raised prices of raw materials like steel billet, the demand from oversea buyers has not shown any signs of releasing so far. “I can achieve a regular sales volume of 30,000tpm in past two years,” said the source, “But the situation of this year is bad, I only completed a total volume of 120,000t up to this moment.” He attributes the poor market performance to the gloomy economy both at home and abroad, and holds a wait-and-see attitude towards the forthcoming market.

With a sales volume of 1,000tpm against the target level of 3,000tpm, the source points out that the Fed’s QE3 does little help to stimulate world economy and the transient rebound has already been dispersed. “Besides, the government has adopted many measures like increasing tax rebates to curb the declining trend of export business,” said the source, “But a certain period of time is needed for such measures to take effect.” Consequently, he does not believe that the export price is likely to go in an upward trend in the near future.
