Cadmium price tends to increase in India

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Nov 09 - Sources in India told Asian Metalt that cadmium price is poised to go up this week as there are more consumers coming to the market for cadmium. Some suppliers already raise the price slightly to around INR220-225/kg (USD2
A producer in India, with an output of around 30-40tpm of cadmium 99.95%min and cadmium 99 . 99%min, told Asian Metal that they have received a bit more inquiries this week . "Consumers might be short of stock. We have sold about five tons in the first week of November, though not much," said the source who puts the local price at around INR220-225/kg (USD2 . 14-2.19/lb) for cadmium 99.95%min, about INR5/kg (USD0.05/lb) higher than October.
According to the source, their official price has been stable at around INR230/kg (USD2.24/lb) for cadmium 99.95%min and INR255/kg (USD2.48/lb) for cadmium 99 . 99%min . However, as the competition in the local market is fierce, they usually sell at a good discount .
The source attributes the price increase to the short supply in the local market and also the price rebound in Europe. As for the demand side, the source revealed the demand from jewellery is stable .
A supplier in India, who trades about 10tpm of cadmium, told Asian Metal that the demand from local electroplating and jewellery sectors is relatively good. "As the price in Europe is on the rise, we also see more buying in the local market, although most consumers tend to purchase in small quantities of one ton," said the source.
Putting the local price at around INR210-225/kg (USD2.04-2.19/lb) for cadmium 99 . 95%min and cadmium 99 . 99%min, the source predicts that the market will hold firm for some time.
