1. Market Highlights
Prices of section steel and steel pipe went up obviously in major Chinese domestic markets during the month. The continuous price increase of raw materials boosted steel mills to lift EXW prices of finished steel to a large extent in the first half of the month. Besides, the better export market performance strengthened domestic market participants' confidence to some degree. The demand from downstream industries remained relatively sufficient in the first half of the month and end users purchased regularly. However, the market performance turned to unsatisfactory late this month following the frequent price fluctuation. Both traders and end users were confused about the market prospect late this month, with wait-and-see attitudes, while steel mills raised prices actively boosted by the higher production costs.
