Nalco to invest Rs 30,000 crore on expansion by FY2027-28

Navratna PSU Nalco would invest around Rs 30,000 crore in the next six to seven years (by 2027-28) on the company's expansion and diversification plans.
It was announced by Union minister for coal and mines, Pralhad Joshi. "With the ambitious growth plans that Nalco has for the future, it will contribute significantly to the alumina and aluminum sectors having a multiplier effect in the production and consumption of this strategic metal," said Joshi.
While around Rs 22,000 crore will be spent on expansion of the company's smelter plant at Angul district and establishment of a 1400 megawatt (MW) captive power plant (CPP). The expansion project is currently at the land acquisition stage.
The Navratna PSU has also envisioned to spend the remaining amount in establishment of the 5th stream refinery, development of Patangi bauxite mines and bauxite transportation system from south block and Utkal D and E coal mines, said official sources. Nalco's bauxite production capacity will increase from 7 . 3 mtpa to 10 . 5 mtpa after operationalization of Patangi mines.
