Port of Vancouver's coal exports from Jan to Oct 2020 down by 11.9%% YOY

In the first ten months of 2020, coal exports from the Port of Vancouver were 26.1 million tons, down by 11.9% from a year earlier, according to data released by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. Among them, metallurgical coal exports amounted to 17.42 million tons, down by 14.3% year on year and accounting for 67% of its total exports. Thermal coal exports were 8.44 million tons, down by 5.7% from a year ago, accounting for 32% of its total exports.
In October 2020, the port's coal exports rose to 2.75 million tons, up by 11.4% month on month and 9.5% year on year. Among them, metallurgical coal exports were 1.85 million tons, up by 1.9% month on month and 17.6% year on year. The export volume of thermal coal was 859,500t, up by 38.8% from last month and down by 2.1% over a year earlier. Exports of other coal amounted to 38,400t, up by 20.68% from September and down by 33.63% compared with October 2019.
