    Japan aluminum buyers to pay higher premiums for Jan-Mar imports

    The premium for aluminum shipments to Japanese buyers for January to March was set at $130 a tonne, up 48% from this quarter, as demand recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic-induced slump, six sources directly involved in pricing talks said.

    Japan is Asia's biggest importer of aluminum and the premiums for primary metal shipments it agrees to pay each quarter over the London Metal Exchange (LME) cash price set the benchmark for the region.
