1. Market Highlights
Though prices for section steel and steel pipe continued the upward trend in most Chinese domestic markets during the month, markups narrowed compared with those in May. Meanwhile, prices for raw materials also showed signs of powerless to go up, and the cost support for finished steel weakened. The demand from downstream industries remained insufficient. Besides, end users only purchased according to orders for final products and refused to build stocks, with wait-and-see attitudes. Facing high purchasing costs but unsatisfactory sales performance, traders only built low stockpiles, for fear of potential risks. Meanwhile, most steel mills produced actively boosted by considerable profits.
