U.S. thermal coal exports down by 35.6% YOY in Jan-May

According to data released by US Census Bureau on July 2, the country exported 10.96 million tons of thermal coal in Jan-May, down by 35.6% YOY, a record low from 5.58 million tons in Jan-May 2016.
Data show that in May, the US thermal coal export volume was 1.58 million tons, down by 54.2% YOY and 14.6% MOM. Among them, the export volume of bituminous coal was 1.07 million tons, which decreased by 67.6% YOY and 26.3% MOM; the export volume of secondary bituminous coal was 456,000 tons, which increased by nearly three times YOY and 20.8% MOM.
