Recently, South Africa's national freighter forwarder Transnet announced that the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) has partly resumed operation of the previously derailing lines and the terminal now runs at a 50% capacity.
On June 18 local time, a derailing accident happened to a 200-carriage coal-loaded train which was running on the lines connecting Ermelo and RBCT; as a result, the transportation stopped.
It was reported that one of the lines already resumed operation in the wee hours of June 22 local time. This accident led to a sharply decreasing coal input of 590,000t at the terminal over the past week, far below the 860,000t per week previously.
