1.Market Highlights
In early May, the prices of manganese ore kept raising as most Chinese traders held back from selling. After mid-May, Gabonese, Brazilian and South African manganese ore suppliers cut their offers to China, and thus Chinese traders cut their offers accordingly. Therefore, manganese ore prices decreased this month.
Before mid-May, silicomanganese producers faced large production costs pressure as manganese ore prices kept firm and they therefore kept offers to test market. After mid-May, the producers cut their prices due to the weak demand. The prices gone down in late May.
Ferromanganese prices kept firm in early May stimulated higher silicomanganese and manganese ore prices, and then remained stable in mid-May as suppliers mainly closed the deals for steel mills' long-term contracts. In late May, manganese ore prices decreased further, so ferromanganese plants cut their offers as the market saw limited transactions due to the wait-and-see attitude of downstream consumers.
