1. Market Highlights
In early April, after South Africa claimed national lockdown and ceased manganese ore supply, Chinese traders kept raising manganese ore prices. After mid-April, Gabonese, Brazilian and South African manganese ore suppliers also lifted offers to China, and thus Chinese traders were more willing to hold prices. Therefore, manganese ore prices increased continuously this month.
In early April, silicomanganese producers faced large production pressure as manganese ore prices kept rising and they therefore lifted offers to test market. It was hard to source low-priced material and silicomanganese prices kept going up in April.
HC ferromanganese prices increased slowly in early April stimulated higher silicomanganese and manganese ore prices, and then stayed stable in mid-April as suppliers mainly made shipments for steel mills' long-term contracts. In late April, manganese ore prices increased further, so ferromanganese plants held offers firm, however, the market saw limited transactions due to the wait-and-see attitude of downstream consumers.
