1. Market Highlights
In early March, manganese ore prices went down with manganese ore prices dropping a lot. Then in mid-March, Malaysia and South Africa announced a state of calamity, causing a panic on manganese ore supply, and thus suppliers held prices firm, pulling up manganese ore prices again.
In early March, the oversupply of silicomanganese became obvious with the transportation recovering. Major steel mills began to force down silicomanganese prices. In mid-March, transactions of the material were mainly made by long-term contracts at stable prices. Then in late March, silicomanganese prices only edged up because of rising manganese ore prices and less demand.
Early this month, HC ferromanganese prices decreased significantly dragged down by silicomanganese prices. Then in mid-March, suppliers mainly made shipments for long-term orders and the prices were stable. In late March, ferromanganese plants raised offers following up with rising manganese ore prices, but the rising range was limited due to few transactions resulted from the wait-and-see attitude of downstream consumers.
