Tongwei Group starts construction of 30GW high-efficiency silicon cells and supporting projects

On March 25, Huaizhou Xincheng Tonwei Solar Energy Co., Ltd. started the photovoltaic industrial base project. The 30GW high-efficiency crystal silicon cells and supporting projects started this time, with a total investment of RMB20 billion (USD2.81 billion), mainly focus on the unmanned intelligent manufacturing route of high-efficiency batteries, and will build intelligent factories, digital workshops, logistics storage and related supporting facilities.
The first phase of the project, with an annual capacity of 7.5GW, will be launched before March 2020 and put into operation within 2021. Subsequent projects will be built and put into operation in the next three to five years according to market demand. The company says it will have at least 30GW of solar cell capacity in 2020. After the full implementation of this project, the production capacity of the company's solar cell and supporting projects will reach 60GW.

On March 19, the company said it will invest in a high-purity crystalline silicon project with an annual output of 40,000t in Baoshan, Yunnan Province, which is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of high-purity crystalline silicon. The total investment is expected to be RMB4 billion (USD562 million) and the project will be launched in the first half of 2020.
