First special train starts transporting Indonesian bauxite to SPIC Shanxi Aluminum

On March 24, a special train loaded with 3,072 tonnes of bauxite departed from Qinhuangdao East Station to Yuanping, Shanxi, which marked the completion of another important line for the bauxite sea-rail multimodal transportation from Indonesia to SPIC Shanxi Aluminum Co., Ltd.
SPIC Shanxi Aluminum Co., Ltd. is one of the eight alumina production bases planned by Chinese government, with annual demand of 6 million tonnes of bauxite. The company started to purchase imported bauxite in 2018. As of March 20, the company has picked up 3.606 million tonnes of bauxite by railway from Jingtang Port Station and Caofeidian West Station. The operation of the new sea-rail line is of great importance to SPIC Shanxi Aluminum Co., Ltd., even for the development of high-tech industry in Shanxi.
Qinhuangdao Port is expected to send out 1 million tonnes of bauxite this year. Up to March 24, the port has received 54,600 tonnes of bauxite from Indonesia, and this batch of goods was transported by rail from Qinhuangdao East Station to Yuanping, completing the sea-rail transportation system.
