Nanshan Aluminum's Indonesia alumina project targets 1 million tons in 2021

A source from the company reported to Asian Metal that the COVID-19 does not affect their project construction and they have finished the port building. "We are going to start power plants and coal gas plants construction," said the source, noting that they might finish the project construction in October.
In early 2019, they started building the first stage project with a production capacity of 1 million tons per year. In late 2020, the second stage project with the same production capacity is scheduled to start.
The Group invests the project jointly with PT. Sanmas Mekar Abadi, a big bauxite producer in Indonesia . With an overall investment of around USD5 billion, the Group takes a share of around 70%.
The project will depend on bauxite from Kalimantan of Indonesia, where Sanmas Mekar has bauxite mines with estimated reserves of around 300 million tons.
In 2021, they will mainly sell alumina to the major aluminum smelter in Malaysia.
Current mainstream alumina prices in Asia stand at USD295-305/t FOB Australia.
