U Sit Taing Aung, Chairman of Burmese Steel Association, said steel consumption in Burma is expected to rise by more than 60% to more than 5 million tons by 2025 based on current level of consumption.Asian Metal Copyright .Asian Metal Copyright The Burmese authority is trying to produce more steel to cut cost, because 90% of its steel demand is rely on import.

In contrast to the growing demand for steel consumption in Burma, the lack of domestic quality standards or guidelines for steel is a major setback for the market, as Burma mainly adopts JIS or ASTM standards. Therefore, the association will make recommendation with the government's technical committee and work with the research and innovation system under the ministry of education to develop quality guidelines for steel as soon as possible.
