Japan's steel products imports down by 17.3% YOY in Jan

Japan's steel import volume of 647,600 tonnes in January 2020 was down by 17.3% YOY, below 700,000t for the second consecutive month, according to preliminary statistics released by the Ministry of Finance.
In January, Japan imported 551,000 tonnes of steel products from Asia, down by 14.4% YOY. In the month, Japan imported 123,000 tonnes from China, down by 7.6% YOY; Japan imported 285,900 tonnes from South Korea, down by 15% YOY.
In January, Japan's steel import volume from ASEAN was 29,700 tonnes, down sharply by 51.9% YOY; that from Russia was 16,000 tonnes, down by 34.8% YOY; that from EU was around 11,000t, down by 8.3% YOY.
