In domestic market, most Chinese white fused alumina and brown fused alumina producers and consumers halted production since last September due to the strict local environmental protection control. As the Spring Festival holiday arrived around January 24th, they left the market for holiday in advance as they could not resume production in a short term. The market kept quiet and the prices of brown fused alumina kept steady while the prices of white fused alumina decreased slightly in China this month.
As most overseas clients returned to the market after the Christmas holiday, the Chinese exporters received more inquiries this week. However, the trading volume didn't significantly increase as most overseas clients already stocked enough raw materials before the Christmas holiday. In addition, some of the overseas downstream consumers insisted to argue for lower prices while the Chinese exporters preferred to hold the prices firm. Thus, the export prices of Chinese brown fused alumina stayed stable while the export prices of white fused alumina declined slightly due to the decreasing prices in domestic market this month.
