Sources had it that Hyundai Motor and LG Chem is negotiating on co-constructing a battery plant, but they have not reached final agreement on details such as investment amount and plant site. The plant is designed to produce electric auto batteries.
The two companies are reported to have set up a joint venture in which they invest trillions of Won and respectively hold a 50% stake. Hyundai Steel's one plant site in Chungcheong region is considered as a potential option for the plant site, but the two companies also consider building the plant overseas.
